Hey guys, I want to start out by saying I did attempt to search but I think the search function is messed up. I have an 86 that I would like to delete the air pump from, the AC is already out and at one point I saw a thread that had a standardf rotation waterpump, no tensioner, no air pump and an adjustable threaded rod that went from the ALT to the manifold to tension the deal. Does anyone have a part number for that rod off hand? or a link to the thread or pics would be great too!
I used the rod brace from the A/C, it was nearly a perfect fit. I had to slot the bolt hole just a little. Also I've ran it awhile with the reverse rotation pump turning normal rotation, with no over heating. I do have a normal rotation pump to install, mainly for fear of cavitation under my increased (6000 RPM) rev limit. You can use a threaded rod but it isn't needed.
kinda a dumb question. what happens when you run a pump in reverse of what it should be doing. i want to remove my air pump but i don't want to mess up the engine.
I set the belt tension by placing a bar between the alternator and brace then pulling. Just like the old days! I squeeze the belt and see that it compresses about a quarter inch each side.
