Well it has stopped working again, About a month ago it stopped and somebody suggested that it might be a problem with a ground inside the door. Well a few taps and it started working again.
Today I go out and it wasn't working again and the little tap on the door no longer works. What else may it be and is it easy to take apart the door panel?
Re: Passenger window stopped again (Kevin McGrade)
Hey Guy!
Mine started doing the same exact thing. were is the ground on an 89? in the door too? Man it is cold up here too and I am trying to tune my new setup. It sounds like it will go down but not up..any suggestions let me know. Jesse
Your problem is probably the electric motor. They always stop in the same place, up or down...so the contacts inside the motor tend to corrode in those places and then...no juice to the windings.
I think the best thing to do is order and new electric motor w/regulator and reinstall. It's not real hard to take the door panel off of my 92. I don't know what year yours is, but one screw on the 92 passenger door is hidden very neatly. The power window switch must be pried out of the door panel...behind the panel is a little "S" bracket...with a long screwdriver you disconnect the end attached to the door (not the panel). The rest is pretty straight forward, just lots of screws and wiring to remember.
I have an 88 that does the same thing. I removed the door panel (not hard) and found that if I wiggle the electrical connector inside the door to the window motor I can get it to work/not work. The connector is located in the bottom of the door, you do not need to remove anything other than the door panel and the plastic sheeting,(a small hand is helpful). Clean the contacts and tighten if necessary. Hope this helps.
