I recently pulled off my intake manifold for a cam change and I shined a light in it just out of curiosity and is appeard to be rusted all over the inside. I then checked my throttle body and the back of the fins (I have no clue what they are called, the things that open and close the tb) were also rusted. Does anyone know if this is normal, if now what causes it and how to fix it? Thanks guys.
The round throttle blades(2 of them)? Rust/oxidation isn't normal. A coating of oily residue would be quite normal for these motors. Try seeing the gaskets in the throttle body(3 of them). What condition? Bypass the throttlebody coolant lines.
Re: Rust inside the Intake Manifold! (89 Paul in cal)
ok, a tb bypass, not a problem, but wouldn't that have done something really bad to the engine if it was sending antifreeze through the engine? It did cause the entire inside of the intake to rust, top, bottom, sides, all of the surface on the inside is covered in rust. I wouldn't think a coolant leak would do that, but I could be wrong.
