I am looking to replace my push rods in my '84.
I upgraded to 1.6RRs, and have been fighting a couple of ticking lifters. After some careful examination of the pushrods, I have found at least one that is slightly bent--and probably the cause of my ticking headaches. The instructions said to replace the pushrods during the install, but NOOOOO. I had to be stubborn
So, I'm looking at the Comp Cams 7812-16 push rods. Their site says they work, but I couldn't find anything in the FSM about push rod length so I'm hoping to run it by you guys first to make sure I'm buying the correct ones. I'm feeling close to having this thing back together in time for spring!!
your ticking may be caused by a change in geometry installing the 1.6 rockers. verify that the rockers aren't touching the lip of the valve spring retainer when depressed by inserting a feeler gauge between the spring and the rocker. Also adjust the rockers with the engine running to be totally accurate.
If you don't have a feeler gauge, you can use some notebook paper or some of similar thickness folded 3 times and slide that in there.
I changed my push rods when I did my 1.6 RRs. I used the Comp Pro Magnum RRs and push rods.
I read that the OEM push rods are a little short and are prone to flexing. The Comps are really quiet. I've had them for over 1 year and never had a problem with them.
