Thinking about keeping the stock exhaust on but removing the cats. how would it sound and would it affect the power range? and theirs 2 o2s? connected to the same pipe the cats are?

It might be a little louder and you might gain like 5 Hp? It wouldnt effect O2 sensors because they're before the cat.

A better option might be to leave the cats, an remove the mufflers. It sounds great, just put on a set of Muffler Eliminators in there place, you can get them from one of the online parts sites..WW

Here's what I did on my '89. Removed the cats and sleeved the pipes. Replaced the main cat with a high flow Magnaflow cat. Replaced the stock mufflers with dual outlet OEM style mufflers. It sounds more aggressive and runs better. May have picked up 15 HP (guess). There is a little resonance around 1300 - 1500 rpm if cruising at that level. I left my headers stock and the car looks stock.

What year car? '88 by your handle? '88 has one O2 on the drivers side down pipe. I ran mine with stock exhaust and cats removed for awhile, it did pick up some power but not tons. It was louder and had more stench. I noticed a lot more power pick up when getting rid of the stock mufflers. They are terrible! Look:

Aardwolf, what mufflers did you replace the stockers with? Cat-back system? Full dual?

I put Magnaflow OEM style dual outlet muffs on mine. You can also get the rear Y. My Y was OK. IIRC they came from Corvette Central. I don't like stainless but some people do.

I had a 2.5" dual with H-pipe made up by a local shop, then used universal fit Hooker Aero Chamber mufflers. There is a lot of drone around 2200 RPM but it picked up a lot of power.

Straight through:

While there may be no emissions testing where you live, it's always possible that testing can be a requirement down the road.

And if you decide to pull the cats then want to sell the car in the future, a potential buyer may live where cars are required. That could kill a sale considering the cost to install new cats especially if testing requirements require all OEM-type equipment.

There are high-flow cats available that reduce emissions (which is really a good thing) and you get the benefit of increased exhaust flow.

Simply removing the mufflers will get a better exhaust note. Any muffler shop can easily bend up two pieces of pipe that will bolt in place of the factory mufflers and you just find some nice looking tips to finish it off.

I ran these mufflers from Mid-America on my 87 and they sounded nice.

Linky Actually, I have the black painted version of the stainless ones in the pic. $200 at M-A.

good point... i think imma keep it. mommy n daddy passed it to me since i graduated hs lol. they wernt fans of imports n i like hondas minus the body kits n lighting n sounds lol performance wise. but come on now im filipino n im only 20 lol. im going to start moddin up the c4 n probably pull the engine out. im use to converting hondas auto to man lets see if the c4 is possible lol. but back to subject.... im just going to keep the stock cats in the garage but in place of the cats just get piping but then eventraully down the road get full exhaust system.
