I have 15 by 10 Weld Pro Star's with 7.5 backspace the tires are M/T drag radials 325/50/15s When I put them on they were hitting the strut arm and other pieces of the rear. What do I need to do to get em to clear the suspension? I had a 1/4 Spacer on and it still hit. Pipe
7.4" is listed as the stock 17 x11 BS w/ 315 tyre
People run 335's on 17 x 11's
Maybe the MT's are bulging fatter being a wider tyre on a narrower rim.
rodj thanks for the reply i'm sick over this. I spent alot of money on these. The Tire does have some bulge to it and thought that the only problem I would have is hitting the Caliper. So I crawled underneath and took a look They are 15x10s 7.5 backspacing and the wheel hit 2 places on the Knuckle where the Tie Rod mounts and at the bottom where the Strut Rod mounts to the Knuckle. Plus I messed up the longer Wheel Studs taking the old Lugs off. A 1/4 inch spacer gave just a little clearance at where the Tie Rod mounts but it still hits the lower part of the Nuckle where the Strut Rod mounts. Maybe i'll also post this in the Drag Racing section for help also. THANKS A MILLION Pipe
I doubt that there's a "reasonable" fix using a 15" wheel 10" wide with the backspacing your attempting to use. The "barrel" is your problem with the "backspacing" you're attempting. By the time you add sufficient "spacer thickness" to get the wheel off the suspension you've moved the wheel probably something near 1 1/4 outboard. Spacers for a "drag race" application is a "NO GO" and and even if you're "brave" I doubt it would pass "tech"!!
You should have checked the wheels for fitment/clearance before a "tire buy"! You need to "rethink" the entire tire/wheel package!
You can "stack" washers on your studs to arrive at a "backspacing" that will work then exchange the wheels if you insist on a 15" wheel. There's "NO FIX"! I believe you need wheels!!
Hey Pipe, I believe most guys use 7/16" spacer when mounting 15x10 drag wheels on the back of a C4. This would be a little thicker than the 1/4" spacer you're using. Maybe that little difference would allow clearance.
Thanks for the Help guy's Tom i'll see if I can find a set of 7/16 spacers and see what happens. I know Chris (insanity) ran a set of 15x10s with BFG's on the back of his ride. At this point i'll try anything. Pipe
