Default LT1 starting problems

Hey guys, Im new to this site, but was sent over from the truck forum, anyway I have a 96' LT1 (Camaro) that I swapped into my truck and cant get it to start. I need some major help, Im so frustrated with it now. I can start the engine with strating fluid, so I believe that the injectors arent firing. I have tried another fuel pump to be sure that wasnt causing the problem (I have a fuel cell with external pump, not original) I had the VATS deleted from the PCM so I dont believe that is a factor either, not completely sure though. I have an LS1 MAF, but the tables were corrected for that as well, I also unplugged the MAF and no change. Any other testing I need to or can do? I read a thread about testing the injectors for shorts, but wasnt sure how to do that properly. Would all eight be faulty? Another member said he had the incorrect wire powering the PCM, is this a possibility? Please help.....

Thanks, in advance.

It sound like the injectors are not getting power to spray fuel in crank. There is a wire to the computer that likely is not getting power in crank mode. To check you can get a noid lite that will flash when powered.

That's what I was thinking initially as well - but if the car is starting with starting fluid he's getting spark so evidently the PCM is working correctly - you wouldn't get spark if PCM wasn't working correctly.

Which leads me to VATS - VATS gives the exact symptoms you are saying - I know it disables the injectors and I think it might also disable the fuel pump, which I think are both symptoms you are having?

Yes those are both symptoms I am having, no power to pump relay from PCM and I dont think that the injectors are firing. I checked the connections with a test light for power (good) and cant seem to confirm the injectors are cycling. I was told that VATS was deleted from the PCM, anyway to confirm this?

Thanks for the help.

You could do a voltage test at the injectors but I just pulled the whole rail up, injectors and all, and just put a cardboard box under them.

Only way I know of to confirm the VATS removal is download the program - it's just one checkbox.

The injectors and spark are on seperate circuits. The injectors get power in crank mode from one circiut and a serperate cicuit in run or the on mode.

Ok I checked the wires at the injectors and they light the test light, so Im guessing it has to be the VATS still. Thanks for all the help, Im sorry im new at this, what program are you speaking of RUKWKR? Tunercat maybe? I wondered if I could get a cable from laptop to ALDL and download something to fix this myself? Any suggestions?

Alright everyone I have fixed the problem. The PCM was not getting keyed power, the fuse was not installed in the fuse block. I guess I had removed it at sometime and never reinstalled it. Fired the first tap of the key with the fuse installed.

Thanks again to all!
