I need advice.
My '86 has 1 new muffler (stock or lookalike) a new Y pipe and 1 older muffler. The older one seems to have rusted baffles internally, if you bang on the bottom you can hear it rattling around. I could replace that one with another similar to the other side or I was thinking of going to muffler eliminators, from one of the catalogs. This weekend I heard a set on a C-4 and it sounded great. Is there any downside to Eliminators over mufflers. Is there excessive noise? The one I heard was just revving while standing still so I have not heard them while driving. Are they excessively noisey on the highway or resonant at some speed?
thanks

I get tons of compliments on the sound my car makes without mufflers. I had a set built at a local shop for $65.00. I just cut the LT-1 tips off and had them welded to straight pipes.
There is a little resonance in the cabin, but unless you have your foot in it, its not too loud. Click the burnout video below and turn up your speakers to hear it at WOT. I was banging the rev. limiter and you will hear that too. Good luck.
they sound a lot like an old big block vette... with muflers!!!!
I put mine on a couple weeks ago, and I love'm!!! A friend of mine is a sports writer with the big wilmington DE newspaper. He covers NASCAR... he thought the elims made it sound more like a stock car!!!
my nephew thinks it sounds cool, too.
yes, it is louder inside, but it is a good louder...
I got elims back in Nov. and I love them :D I had flowmasters before and the elims aren't much louder inside the car than the flows. The elims are louder outside the car when I get on it and have a deeper sound at idle.

I absolutely agree. Same thing happened with mine. Exactly.
BTW, DON'T pay 150.00 for the ones in the catalogs. That is ridiculous. Have a good muffler guy make some for you. Track down your favorite style tips and weld them to straight pieces of pipe. Even that won't cost you half the catalog price.
I like mine. Had a local shop put them on for about $100, which included new dual chrome tips. They are louder than stock, but they make the Vette sound like a Vette.
:smash:
I think they're more mean sounding than they are loud. They only get really loud when you hit it hard. My favorite part is that little belching sound (for lack of a better term) you get when you shift gears. It's they way a vette should sound if you ask me.
I got mine done almost as soon as I got the car. They are louder, but yes they are a good louder, as said above. For the money, I would never get exhaust over elims if I could do it over.
