Default Clutch Pedal Tight

Hey Guys,

Iv'e noticed today while drivin in that the pedal is getting hard. I also noticed that I really had to push down hard to enable the ignition switch to kick in while starting. Is this that plastic pin that everyone is talking about that go bad? If so, Does anyone have a pic of it and how it comes out /where it is, etc? Thx! :jester

Default Re: Clutch Pedal Tight (Corvette_116)

It's a plastic bushing between the clutch cylinder rod and the clutch pedal. It wears; walks out a bit, and the pedal jams.

Get upside down in drivers seat with plastic panel under drivers dash removed (the one without the rug material). Look at the firewall where the rod comes through; trace it to the pedal.

For a quick fix, wrap a cable tie in a figure-8 pattern araound it, to hold it from walking off the pin.

The GM part # (at least for an '86) is BUSHING 14094900

If you push too hard while it's cocked at an angle, you'll bend the rod. It can be removed to straighten; just unbolt the cylinder, pull it into the engine bay a bit, and remove the circlip holding the rod in.
