First, my car is 90 coupe
My Infl Rest light in the DIC came on today....randomly. After start up it comes on as should, then off, then stays on. it does dim to almost off, but remains on. I have done searches on here for this problem, found many results. It appears as most people remove the light from the DIC. This can't be good. Could the air bag possibly deploy? Im I just weird about this? I am a bit on the poor side, if it can wait, I need it to wait, If it is an simple fix, then lets git r' done. Where can I buy a FSM. Need one badly. Any more information is always accepted. Thanks in advance.
90' usually has this problem. Most can be fixed by
1.disconnecting the battery
2.take off the right sidde and cllean everything up, then put new grease on it.
3.might be a bad sensor
First of all, see if you can trace down any codes.
Probably 15, 16, 25 or 26. They indicate ground problem at the sensors mounted on the frame under the battery and under the washer fluid tank (right side). WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE AIRBAG SYSTEM, BE SURE YOU HAVE THE BATTERY DISCONNECTED FOR AT LEAST 15 MINUTES, TO BE SURE THAT THE DERM LOSES IT´S POWER, SO THE AIRBAG DOESN´T DEPLOY BY MISTAKE.
It´s airbag related and you don´t want it to deploy without crashing the car...hhhmmm you get it.
Here´s a few, http://www.zr1netregistry.com/Old_Proj/old_proj7.htm http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-t...e-problem.html http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-t...ir-system.html, post #2.
Here i can add that to do the job easier, you can make a switch, just cut a single wire of about two feet long and put a simple light switch inline as an on/off device, and putting the leads at the A and K terminals to "ground and unground" for those 3 second intervals.
I got the idea from another thread here on the forum, forgot wich one it was.

is notorious for the air bag light issue, most of the time the frame sensors require removal and cleaning...takes some time, not much $$. If you do a search you should be able to find some references.
i got to start my car today, the seat belt light in the cluster is on also... what does that mean? Havn't attempted to get any codes yet.
You just had to wait for that one, I´m about to help someone with the same problem, and he has the same thing going on with his 90.
Now, if he could just make some time someday for me to get over and let me helphim.....
Now he decided to go on a golf tour/holiday to Portugal.
Ok, he´s retired and wants to do as he likes, as soon as he lets me help him, I´ll post the results here and maybe even with some pics.

Check your codes to see if it is a bad ground sensor first. When fixed and codes cleared the seatbelt lite will go off also. The 2 lites go hand in hand to show that there is a problem.
Under right side of dash(driver) there is a plug in....there are 2 rows...go to 2nd row ...3rd from right (this is the K Pin)...I like to attach a clip to this and ground other end of wire to seat frame.....turn ignition switch to on position...there will be 3 flashes of code 12....then your trouble codes with 3 flashes and then end up with 3 flashes of code 12 after the trouble code(s) are finished. This will tell you what side sensor needs a cleaning...code 26 is the usual one..passenger side sensor.
I agree with everyone. Take the Frame Sensor off the Frame and take a Dremel Tool and clean the Frame where the Sensor sits. Clean it down to bare Metal and also clean the bottom of the Sensor then apply a good coating of Dielectric Grease. When re installing it I put small Star Washers on the Bolts to help make a better ground. Try clearing the codes and if the Light still stays on it's a bad Sensor. Then you need to OHM the Sensors. Mid America has a button code clearing tool and instructions to fix it with Ohm specs. Pipe

This is the same as the tool from Mid America, difference is that it´s probably 20 dollars cheaper...
But the info from their PDF is usefull.
To clear most malfunction codes (52,53 & 54 cannot be cleared this way).
1. Turn ignition "OFF"
2. Ground ALDL terminal "K" to terminal "A"
3. Turn ignition "ON"
4. Wait until fault codes begin flashing (about 5 seconds). When codes begin flashing, unground terminal "K" for 3 seconds.
5. After ungrounding terminal "K" as described in step 3, ground it again for 3 seconds.
6. Unground terminal "K" and wait 10 seconds. Before turning the ignition "OFF" verify that Code 12 is the only code flashed. If not, the codes have not been cleared. If the codes have not been cleared, repeat the procedure again.
Using the switch described by vette079 makes the procedure easier. It make take several tries to get it to work.

I still have to say it wasn´t my idea, I got the idea here on the forum, I just don´t remember who came up with it, but thanks anyway...
I personally have never seen a #52 #53 #54 code come up. Mostly codes 24-26 the right side frame sensor and after I ohm'ed the pin connector I found out it was the sensor was bad. Guess I was lucky. The sensor was $60 bucks from GM GOOD LUCK WITH THE FIX Pipe

You wouldn´t happen to know what it should ohm out at, would you?
And I guess you "ohmed" it after you disconnected it from the system, right?
Asking this because I am about to help out someone with a 90 vette with the same problem.

The sensor lead pigtail connector has 3 points.....
call 1-black
2-yellow
3-pink
note...2 and 3 are side by side..
CONNECT BETWEEN---
1 AND CHASSIS GRD...........less than 1 ohmn
1 and 2............................aprox. 10K ohmn
1 and 3............................aprox. 10K ohmn
2 and 3............................less than 1 ohmn
Took this from my FSM (1990 year) for code 26..front right sensor.
Hope this helps.

I should be able to find this in my 91 FSM.
I´ll look it up, but thanks anyway.
After you disconnect the Battery peel back the carpet in the footwell area down where your toes would rest. You will see the connector coming through the Firewall it will be yellow in color it just pulls apart. Look at the one coming through the Firewall you will notice it has a small notch in it. Face the notch at the bottom. 1 pin will be at the top and the other 2 at the bottom. 1 top 2 bottom left and 3 bottom right. 1&2 should ohm about 10,000 ohm's 1&3 same but 2&3 should be less than 1 ohm. If any are out of spec than you could have a bad frame sensor. You can check both sides but it's mostly the passenger side. Pipe
