Default Opti-spark 1 vs. 2??

I'm wanting to upgrade my ignition but it seems there is not a lot of choices for the 93 with the opti-spark 1. There are plenty to chose from for the opti 2. What's the difference between the two, and can I put a 2 on mine?

To run a Gen II opti in your 93 you'll need.

95/96 opti
95 timing cover
Change the camshaft
95/96 opti wire harness
95/96 opti vacuum harness

How about a Dynaspark? I've put one in my 96' and one in a 93' as well, nice pieces.

There are multiple reports of MSD units being bad right out of the box, including one that I replaced on a 93'.

Thanks for the info. I haven't looked into the Dynaspark, but I will. We put an Accel kit on a friend of mines T/A LT-1 last weekend, damn what a difference!! It came with a complete distributor and a control box. They dont make one for the early opti. I've never cared much for Accel, but I was very impressed with this set up! Any more opinions or experences(with optisparks!)? Thanks

I've also read of several Accel optis failing soon after the install. I hope your friend has better luck.

i put a dynaspark in my 94'......and it runs like a turpentined tomcat. starts after 1/2 revolution. every time, all the time. have been very satisfied with it, especially with the consistancy of its operation.

Can't you just change the dowel in the camshaft instead of an new camshaft? Anyway on a related note, I have a spare LT1 I am thinking of putting in my truck, switching it to carb and distributor, will a regular gen I timing cover bolt to an LT1? Electric water pump obviously will be used and gen1 timing set.

If it's the stock 92-94 camshaft, no. If it's an aftermarket camshaft, yes.

Yep, same here. Whether it's the opti or a combination of that w/ other things, I've never seen a vehicle start quicker (as long as I have some pressure in the rail - but that's a different story).

My vette is a 93 and I picked up an opti and timing cover from a 95 yesterday for a song. Why do I get myself into these messes ?
