I'm bring back to life a 1985 that hasn't been run since 1995.
Today after running the car for about 1/2 an hour, short trips to the gas station and around a few blocks, pulled the car into the driveway, turned off the engine and noticed a coolant leak.
Opened the hood and found what looked like rubber vacuum block off cap on one of the metal heater lines running to the heater core.
This little rubber cap had a pin hole leak.
Took this cap off, there is a metal nipple off this metal pipe. It's about 1/4" in diameter and about an inch long. Anyone know what this nipple is for? Why would it have been blocked off with this rubber cap?
The stange thing is this cap was not held on by a clamp. It just slid on.
Thanks.
Why would it have been blocked off with this rubber cap?
Probably because the heater core leaked into the passanger floorboard (which is what happens when they go bad), and the previous owner just capped it to spare himself the pain in the azz to replace it with a new one. This thing is totally buried under the dash and difficult to change out.
I don't think the heater core is a problem. The two larger hoses still run to the heater core. This is a small nipple that comes off the top pipe that connects to the heater core. This nipple is about 1/4: in diameter and about one ince long.
Does anyone know where this small nipple would have supplied water to?
