It will work, but probably not work well enough. You're probably going to want to bump your idle up a bit, and I don't believe the hypertech can do that.
Best bet would be a custom Chip. I honestly don't even know if Hypertech removes the EGR or not. I drove my 89 for a year with no EGR (miniram) but never set a code (EGR still was set in the PROM)
If you gut everything in the exhaust.. you will probably need a heated 02
I could be wrong, (cause Im way out of my league posting anything on this section) but, if you need to turn off the EGR or any of the emissions controls, I dont believe that any of the across the shelf chips are going to help you. It would have to be one that is being sold "for off road use only"

That sounds right.. but even 'OFF Road' PROMS don't have the EGR Disabled.. I found that out on a custom PROM I had purchased. now I just do it myself
If EGR was ever 'disabled' in a non-custom aftermarket chip, they would likely go about it all wrong. To save their butts, they would probably only disable the flag, but the fuel and spark curves would still be set up for EGR driving. The EGR should not only have the flag disabled but also be regulated to act only at extreme temps (ie a temp that your engine will never see). If the max value is 255, I set it at 253 just in case there are any code glitches for max variables. This would of course be for off-road use only...-Matt-
