I noticed after my audio install that the gas gauge reading is always at full. Another thread suggested that at a high ohm reading on the sending unit the PCM interprets this as full. So I think I must have unplugged or broken this wire connection somewhere in the car. Does anyone know how the wire from the sending unit is routed in the car from the sending unit to the engine compartment?
I'm working a similar issue with my 96.. however I didn't install an audio system and don't think the wire is broken but anything is possible. I called Gordon to trouble shoot... I'll post my results.

Could be a ground that I unscrewed also I'm guessing the wire is routed on the right or left side of the trunk area and probably enters right in the middle of the back of the trunk where the hatch release mechanism is... but that's just a guess and I can't find this answer in the FSM... Would be interested to see what Gordon says.

Open/disconnected wire between sender and gauge= EMPTY
Wire shorted to ground ie... pinched or screwed to ground =FULL
Take it for what it's worth.
This is the quote I got about the wire having a break...

The other thing I've come across is having to clean the sending units contacts which I will do anyways since it probably will need it soon even if it doesn't solve the problem.

Yep and CFI-EFI was 100% correct ! a open circuit DOES show full...MY BAD !! Think I need to find something else to do with my rainy day..sorry about the bass ackwards reply LOL
As far as I know - tank to right side hatch (you might just disconnect the harness at the pump to see what the gage shows). Down the rear of the right side door frame - under the passenger door - back up through the cowl and then behind the dash to the display. Rear speakers and rear wiring are usually wrapped up in that harness so there are quite a few wires. If you swapped out the right rear speaker, probably reasonable to start looking there - screw through the harness.
