i had a experience with a dodge gran caravan,it used to have a terrible smell and then it used to went away,it smelled like the paint or tinture the women uses on their hair
or to get the permanent curly ...well,after weeks we noticed that the battery was HOT,and we took it out and it was inflated like about to blow !
check the battery, might not be your case but it was unusual and i've never seen something like that .....
I drove the car more than usual today. Its about 20-25 miles round trip (all highway) to the Corvette Shop, to my work and then back home. I typically don't put on more than 10 miles a day. Today when I got home, there was NO SMELL at all. I wonder if there's a leak somewhere that's accumulating when I don't drive (I only drive it one or twice a week). The short trips are probably not enough to burn whatever it is off. Today, with the longer trip, it burned off. Since the mechanic couldn't find any obvious leaks under the hood, I wonder if there's something being dripped on below. I think I'll have to get it put up on a lift and look around.
This kind of thing happened to me recently with a fuel leak. The fuel pressure regulator had a *very* slight leak, but over the week or so of sitting, plenty of gasoline dripped on my exhaust. Needless to say, taking a short trip was absolutely killer! When I brought it in to be looked at, the dealer had trouble finding any smell because I had driven it quite a bit. Finally after 3 days of trying, they were able to reproduce the problem and fix it.
In terms of the other stuff, it doesn't smell like brakes or clutch burning. The battery is brand new and is cool and not inflated at all.
Lemme get this thing on a lift and poke around with a mechanic and I'll report back.
