700R4 binding/resistance?
After pulling the driveshaft, I have noticed excessive friction when trying to turn the transmission yoke by hand, it it not too bad turning it counterclock when viewed from the rear, the direction the car normally travels, but it is very hard to turn it clockwise. Trans is completely stock, nothing has ever been done to it except for changing the speedometer driven gear about 2 yrs ago because of a gear change. Has 48k miles on it. Is it possible there is a band hanging up in in somewhere or something like that, the FSM doesn't seem to address this problem. Is this something that can be fixed without a rebuild, it works fine otherwise, it just causes a tremendous amount of rolling resistance, especially rolling in reverse.

If you are concerned that something is "hanging up" in the trans, total disassembly is the only way to inspect.
It is doubtful though. When things hang up in an auto trans, they bind. When they bind, they grenade. An auto trans is a planetary gearset(s) manipulated by hydraulic clutchpacks or bands. As mentioned, planetary's dont drag, or hang up, but clutchpacks/bands can. They burn up almost immediately after though.
