Does anyone here have a cross-fire intake and have any of you modified your L-83 to get more horsepower. What did you do and how did you do it. I was looking to rebuild my 84 and wanted to boost the horsepower to 250 to 275 HP and get it to still run on regular fuel? Am I crazy here or what? :bb
You will probably get more resonses at http://www.crossfire.webhop.net/ where you will find a number of guys who have taken their crossfire, L83 engines to the 300 hp threshold.
I have a "work in progress". Unfortunately, I have MAJOR budget constraints. If you are talking flywheel horsepower, that is VERY do-able. I cut a second from my initial 1/4 mile time just "tunin' and fiddlein". My biggest single gain came from porting the intake manifold. After that, I need head work, cam, compression, and exhaust. Just like any other engine ever made. All in all, I've reduced my 1/4 mile time by about a second and three quarters, for about $200.00 in misc. expenses. I'm going to make this MISFIT run if it KILLS me!!! Good luck and have fun.
check out http://www.x-ram.com that is the first step to making a crossfire work.i have done several things to wake up my crossfire.first i have a x-ram,1.6 roller rockers, k&n airfilter, underdrive pullys, chip & 160 thermostat, true duell exhaust , accell 300+ ignition box, davis dist & coil & more im forgetting. the car will eat up tuned ports but still cant hang with new camaros & ta's. ive decided to rip the engine out & install a 383 stroker (450ish hp). i am not gonna reuse the crossfire system....im going with a holly 750. its just easier that way.good luck.
Crossfire forum will give wealth of info.. 300 HP is pretty doable but much more than that and I have to agree with other posts and go with a holley carb and 383. Simple is always better!!
