I have a 90 Vert and have had the usual inflatable restraint light issues in the past. To resolve the problem I cleaned and applied dielectric grease to both sensors and was able to successfully reset the light. I have an issue now however, that I cannot seem to correct. I have been using TunerPro to adjust some tuning perimeters on my FI 383. For some reason the inflatable restraint light will not reset. It flashes a code 12 and when I ground pin F on the ALDL no other codes flash just code 12. I did not find anything in the FSM that addresses this problem.
Has anyone had this problem with their 90? Yes, I have tried disconnecting the battery and I use a digital watch when attempting to reset the light. All ideas would be appreciated.

I have a 1990 Vert also that had the same sensor problems in the past. I noticed in your post that you are grounding Pin "F"...you should be grounding Pin "K"...2nd row..3rd from the right..this will bring up any codes if there are any . We have to have this clarified first.

My bad, you are right. I am grounding Pin K. I wrote this early this morning and my alphabet was still scrambled.

Wow...after 3 code 12 flashes; it still flashes code 12 and no fault codes. I checked my '90 FSM and cant find anything to match your problem(Im retired and have time on my hands...hopefully someone else can come up with and answer..sorry!
Just a thought even though it didn't flash any codes have you tried to OHM the Sensors? With the Battery Disconnected of course. I did a friends car and it didn't flash any codes but when I Ohm'ed the Sensors the right front was bad. Just a thought. Pipe

No, I have only tried to reset using the FSM instructions. I will give your idea a try if you can explain to me what I would be looking for.

Since you have a FSM; check out 9J-A-27.....this will give you the procedure to check sensor....yellow cable under passenger dash(for right hand sensor) unplug pigtail and check the sensor end pigtail...but DO NOT check the end that it was connected to as the multimeter batteries could set off the airbag.
I'm kinda going by memory. It's been a while. I inserted a small nail into K. I rigged a pigtail with an aligator clip on each end. ( just coated standard wire ) Clip one side onto the nail and you will be grounding the other clip to the steel bar under the drivers seat. Hold the the clip onto the steel bar and turn on the ignition key. ( this will put into diag. mode.) After it flashes it 3 12's, you unground count, one thouasnd, two thousand, three thousand. Reground it to the steel bar, count 1thousand-3thousand. Unground count again. Continue this sequence and see if it will reset the light. Be patient, on a retry, try and unground as soon as you see the first light flash. Like I said "its been a while" and I misplaced the actual instructions. Maybe someone can add to this. Good luck.

Did you ever attempt the install at the base of the column a 2 ohm resistor to defeat SIR light like we discussed? I'll likely do mine in May.
Someone reading this for the first time needs to understand this also disables the Air Bag.

I finally got the codes 26 and 41 to clear. Reread all the info and archives over and over...I was trying to clear the codes wrong. You have to wait for the default codes to start blinking and not before. I looked for the 2 amp and they kept asking what wattage ...well life is good NOW. I could not believe I missed that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !
1) Started over and finally got a code 16, L/H sensor.
2) Pulled and ohm'd the sensor. All readings were normal.
3) Cleaned the frame & sensor. Applied dielectric grease, reinstalled.
4) Tried to reset the code using FSM procedure.
5) Code 12 continued to flash and no other codes were set.
6) Started the car and the fasten seat belt light went out but now code 12 continues to flash.
7) Gave up and took a pain pill since I had a tooth pulled today.
I am at a loss as where to look next. I was surprised however, since the car did not show a code the last time I was trying to solve this issue. I guess I will start over again tomorrow and see what code(s) show up. I need to get this behind me because the car is due an inspection next month and it will not pass with the "infl res" light illuminated.
If you don't get it solved in time , just pull the cover off the DIC and cover the Infl res. light bulb cell with electric tape. If they don't see the light staring at them it probably won't even cross their mind. They are more concern about emissions.

Sounds like the best idea up to this point. For a split second it crossed my mind to give the local GM boys a shot at it. But then I remembered several years ago when I called them about doing some engine work on my 90, because of personal time constraints, I was told they did not work on cars as old as mine. Something about they caused more problems than they solved on the older cars. Crazy me, I thought a small block was a small block and volts were volts no matter what the external packaging looks like. Who knows, maybe they did me a favor in the long run as I wound up doing the work myself, saving a ton of cash and had no problems.
I've read the post on how to resolve these code issues.
BUT WHERE ARE THE SENSORS PHYSICALLY LOCATED IN THE CAR??? -
1990 Coupe
The L/H sensor is behind the plastic battery box and if memory serves me correctly the R/H sensor is under the coolant reservoir. Both are mounted to the frame with two fasteners. All of the wiring to the SIR system is covered in yellow plastic sleeving. This makes it stand out and hopefully keeps things from deploying when they are not intended to be deployed.
Working on INFL REST problem. I jumped K to the seat frame to ground it out, I received code 35. Does anyone know what codes 35 is? Could anyone tell me where is the DERM?
