Default Cheap for my c4

Hello from Guatemala, Central America:

In this country it´s very difficult to get hi performance parts for my L98 C4 (1990), and every thing you need, you have to order by mail to the U.S. and you have to pay a lot for shipping and handling from the U.S. to Guatemala an then a lot of money for the custom taxes, so you can´t order big packages.

My question is about cheap horsepower improvements. I have the 1990 245 hp L98 with 460 LE, the only item I have is the throttle body air foil.

I want to get more power for the street with a thermo master chip, K & N filter oand maybe a throttle body spacer (Tornado). What do you think about these items...? Do I have to change to 160 degree thermostat if I use the chip....? How about the engine pulleys....
How many HP can I get with every of the listed items....?

In the summit Racing catalog, I saw one very cheap low restriction muffler with the single inside and twin outside tubes.......do they work well......?

Thank you so much for your help............

Arturo......from Guatemala

Here's my .02.

Forget the chip
Forget the spacer
Forget the 160* thermostat

Do the following mods:

Remove the Frisbee
Do the throttle body bypass
Remove the front cats and replace the main cat with Magnaflow high flow cat.
Replace the rear mufflers with Magnaflow dual outlet mufflers
Replace the pulleys with a March aluminum under drive pulley set (replace belt).
Replace filter with new stock filter.

All of the mods will help your car and will do no harm.

From what I've seen, the under-drive pulleys are a YMMV type of thing. There are people running DD's with 23% underdrive crank pulleys, lightweight batteries and electric waterpumps who have no problem. Definitely gives a power bump though, and are pretty cost-effective.

Not so. The March 3 pulley set has a smaller pulley for the alternator which makes it turn at normal speed. I have had this set for 2 years and it charges and runs everything normally. It is called the "Power and Amp" set. Do some research don't just repeat what you hear.

Is this the set? This is the one I was considering along time ago. It looks very nice. Do you have a rough estimated hp gain on a mildy modded car? Full exaust, intake ect. Thanks!!!

$280 wow, Summit has it for $230. I have that same March kit on mine without the aluminum alternator pulley and it costs far less. Summit has that also for $130.

Mine was the black painted aluminum set with the steel alternator pulley and a different part #, but it is basically the same thing. I got mine from Thunder Performance and it was under $150. I recommend the Power and Amp set it works well, and is easy to install.

Been using that for 13 years. No charging problems.
