Default ZZ4 question

Would a stock crate ZZ4 in a 77 corvette be comparable to my LT1? Trying to settle a bet at work. Thanks guys.

Rumors I have heard are that the two are very similar.

For power? It depends a lot on all factors, Budman78 dyno'd his 78 with a ZZ4 the same day I dyno'd my '85 with a ZZ3. My RWHP was about 250 (about 291 at the flywheel) and RWTQ was about 350 (415 at flywheel). His RWHP was only like 190 and his TQ was pretty low too. He said his air fuel mixture was off and several other tuning things. The crate motors are very similar to the L98 block.

BTW, according to the article I read the ZZ3 dyno'd 345 hp on a non street legal camaro and ZZ4 dyno'd 355. The intake and fuel delivery system have a lot to do with the numbers, as you can see their dyno pulled about 50 more HP than my fuel injected TPI ZZ3.

It sounds like the two are pretty evenly matched. My friend said when he puts the ZZ4 in his '77 it'll blow my doors off . Me thinks not..... ;) Thanks for the info.

A ZZ4 with a carb setup is capable of 350-355 hp. the 93 LT1 was only rated 300 hp

my dad has a ZZ4 in his 57....hauls butt for being a huge car.....but my lt1 in my vette would put a spankin on it....

I would say it depends on a lot of different things....and how you have it set up...

Bottom line...Go race him! :)

I thought the 300 HP rating included all the accessories. Are you saying the ZZ4 puts out 350-355 HP with all the accessories hooked up.

Thanks

the zz4 has a more aggressive cam than the production cars..i think it would have a slight edge if it had a well tuned carb spraying a good mixture but not by much. i raced a zz4 in a early 60's chevelle this last summer and it was neck and neck. see sig for what i've done to the l98. he still was around 1 tenth faster but also had a lil more traction. however he did have the edge in cam but i did in gearing
