I am replacing the head unit and cdm on a 91 coupe with a Kenwood cd player/radio. I read in the audio section about having to add some 1k resistors if you throw a code due to the old head missing. I pulled the old head and cdm had to move the car and no codes came up in going 50 feet and warming the engine up. Is this a sometimes thing or a necessary mod? I don't want the light to come on and have to tear it all apart again and equally don't want to get in the habit of ignoring codes either.. Any thoughts as to how long you have to go to set the codes? Do you need lights on or what. Any help would be really appeciated as I am ready to reassemble asap..
Dave
Hey Dave do you have the auto climate control? Apparently the code is set because the LCD is missing from the stock unit but if you have auto climate control that LCD is enough to not throw the code. That's what I've read anyways.
Yes I do have the auto climate control and did drive the car breifly with no code set, though only for a couple of minutes I would have thought long enough to set one. The part in the TSB said may set a code and suspect you are correct about if there is something connected it will be fine sort of thing. Thanks for getting back to me on this.. Dave
When I replaced the radio in my '90 three years ago, I was worried about the SYS light also. But I never got it. I think it has to do w/ the dimmer on the radio, but not sure. My car does have the electronic climate control.
