Default Heat always on

Can anyone tell me why I can not control the temperature inside my 89.
The control panel seems to work fine. I can increase the temperature on the control panel and hear the A/C unit shut off, but when ac is needed
hot air comes out of the ducts as if the heat is on. It seems as if a damper door is stuck open
Thanks

Do you have the manual or electronic controls?

be a bad controller. You need the FSM to run diagnostic tests and see what the problem is there are many components in the electronic climate control system which can cause any number of problems.

A possible quick item to check. Open your fuse panel (passenger side) and remove the fuse marked CLIMATE for 30 seconds, then re-install.

Turn on the ignition and start the engine. This resets your climate control HVAC damper to its default position.

You should be able to verify movement of the damper door through the entire temperature range.

This is one way to see if your temp control rod fell off....

You can take the car out and throw it into some hard left/right turns and see if the heat goes away. I think the hard left makes the door flip to cold, then right makes it move to heat. If hard truns give a change in temp you've got a actuator rod that has fallen off. If not the door may not be loose enough for this test to work, but it worked on my 88. HTH

Thanks! I found the problem. There is a controller under the dash on the drivers side. Would only energize on the heat side. Cold side dead. I ordered one from Rock Auto. Least expensive found on search

Thanks everyone. 89 Vette seems to be an electronic nightmare.

I am having the same issue with my 89'. The door works sometimes more often not, I looked at the RockAuto site and didn't see the control.
What do they call it? or a part number?

sometimes it pays to keep it simple. I prefer the Vettes that don't have all the luxuries, but to each his own.

Had a similar problem with my 89. Turned out to be the PC board under the drivers' side dash. I pulled it out and found a loose resistor. I soldered it back and POOF it's been fine ever since.
