How is the 4+3 holding up Steven Mack?

Larry how did the OD go? Did you switch it into OD by mistake?

No, I just put my new engine in and had broken it in for probably a couple of months, accelerating hard while driving but I had not let from a stop hard and went thru the gears.

When I went to the strip, and ran my first run, the car went 12.5 @ 115mph with a 2.6 sec, 60 foot and when I left to go home, there was no OD.

I had OD on the way and for weeks before, I had just changed the fluid and hoped it would be OK, because everybody talked about the Calloway turbo cars being so strong and having the 4+3, but it did not work for me....

So I bought a ZF only because at that time, no one made a TKO swap kit and I did not want to fabricate my own kit,

I haven't put the 406 in yet.I don't plan on drag racing the vette.I have read about other forum members using the 4+3 behind built motors and they seem to hold up. How long I don't know.Looking at Larry's experience I think I better have a plan B.I would love to put a TKO 500 in like Larry did but that's alot of money.

I must say, I LOVED the 4+3 in a major way, it was an awesome tranny and a great concept, I don't think there has bee na 7-speed manufactured since, I loved the kick down.

I call several places and asked for them to "beef it up" and they said that they could, but they would give me no warranty.

I if ever put the 350 back in, I will probably put a 4+3 back in it!

It appears that I will have to stick with the 4+3 for now (with the 421). What forum members are using the 4+3 with built motors?

My new motor will be in the area of 550/550 at the crank. It will be a good test for the old tranny. I heard the 87/88 4+3's were the strongest of the bunch. I certainly hope so!

I have one last slalom event to attend on July 19th, then I will be working on pulling the 350.

I can't remember off the top of my head what forum members are using the 4+3 on built motors.I just remember following some threads on the forum. Some had good things to say, some not.Maybe Larry's source for beefing up the 4+3 is a good way to go.I'd like to know what they do to make them stronger and the cost.Nice horsepower numbers Black Z,keep us posted when you switch motors.
