Default Cold Air Intake for 91

I see a lot of them for up to 89 and 92 and up. Anything for 91 that is worth it? TIA

you can get the tri claw SLP, or vortex, or you can fab up a c5 one, I have one that is a metal box shaped like the stock set up with a ram air scoop that runs down and under the car, inside the box has a claw builtin with K&N airfilters, and a IAT sensor relocate, only heartd opf one other so far, a few years ago, and they were $500.

You don't need a cold air intake for the 91. Don't waste your money. You have a speed density system that doesn't incorporate a mass air flow sensor. Just get the K&N Filter that fits directly onto your throttle body. I don't have the number at my disposal at this time, I'm out of town. Another forum member may be able to chime in.

Won't you get warm air coming from the fans?

No. The air from the fans are ambient temp until the air passes over the warmer engine.

The ambient air will be pulled through the hot radiator with the fans where it picks up heat and then gets sucked into the engine, with the air filter mounted directly onto the throttle body. Also, the throttle body mounted air filter is a lot closer to the exhaust manifolds which adds even more heat.

It's better to leave the stock setup (with the open lid mod) where the air filter picks up air in front of the radiator and is further from the engine.

I'm not sure how the 91 stock intake is, but on my '93 I put a K&N filter in the stock airbox and cut the hole in the lid much larger. I could feel a definite increase in acceleration. Not a huge amount, but an increase you could feel. I do have the hotcam kit with 1.6RR though, don't know if that makes a difference.

That would have to make a diffeence because you shouldn't feel any increase in acceleration on a stock system - at all.

Nobody knows the K&N part number for the air filter, just in case I decide to go that route?

I'll get it for you Mon or Tues next week when I return home. There is one you can order from Summit, which was the one I actually ordered, but you will have to crush it a bit on the side that is next to your throttle position sensor.
After some further investigation I have the number of the one that should be the better fit.

I will not agree or disagree with this theory. You may be correct. But my theory is that with the speed density system being able to place your filter directly on the throttle body allows for maximum air to be sucked into the plenum. This is the name of the game, maximum air for max output. I think that with the air box and the tubing, you lose some air flow due to restriction.

Cold air is the name of the game. A stock or near stock L98 has all the air flow it can use.

Although I am a little bit more than stock though. I am making 410HP at the wheels.

I agree with BADDUCK, Cooler air makes more power than a lot of hot air. That's why turbo and supercharged engines use intercoolers.

IMO don't get one that just fits on the front of the TB, it gets very warm underneath the hood, and you will suck nasty air in. Get one or make one that goes infront or underneath the car grbbing cool air.
I can speak from real expeirence not theory. I can tell the difference in how it revs up and at higher rpms and higher speed it is different then the cut air lid I have. On a cold day it is a whole different car, you'll be shocked if you can get big amounts of cold air to that thing, and with 410 RWHP
