My dad just gave me his 88 c4 corvette. The anti-lock brake light on would turn on and off over the course of about a year and then it has stayed on for about the past year. He replaced the brake pads thinking that was the problem, and it did not fix. Where should i begin to inspect it and/or repair it? I am mechanically inclined and have a general knowledge of car mechanics.

 

The abs controls are in a compartment behind the drivers seat. Under the speaker.

Probably should consider buying a FSM. I have an 89 FSM. I will look it up in my FSM

When Anti lock malfuction occers, check: control module connector is securely connected.

Check all abs connectors
Check "brake" fuse

Check "GAGE" fuse

If prem. checks do not correct, use J 35890 ABS tester to properly diagnos.

This is a start, but the GM Shop Manual will have detailed wiring diagrahms and step by steps checks. My ABS was a complete disaster. I fixed it using the book and a multi meter, without that special ABS tester that is almost impossible to find now.

Don't know.

 

Call all of the GM dealers locally and see if any still have the ABS tester for C4's. Its the easiest way to diagnose your ABS.
