Converting an 86 Z51/TPI vette auto to 6-speed manual. I have the 96 3:45 Dana 44 rear. I already have the Dana 6 speed D/S and Tqe brace.
Question 1) Will the 1993 LT1 dual mass flywheel and clutch work on the TPI motor one piece crank or is it LT1 specific? Motor is a GM replacement 350 one piece seal, roller block, year: 95 (non LT1). Or do I need the single mass 1989-1991 flywheel/clutch set up to make this work? Any help would be great.
My quote of the day: Every car should have Z06 brakes
But not everyone wants to go to the cost of a DM flywheel when a single mass conversion can be done cheaper especially if converting from a 4+3 or a 2 pce RMS block
I had a '87 4+3 TPI car that I converted to a ZF 6-speed trans from a '94 LT1. The dual mass came with the trans, but I thought it was way too heavy to use. I used a Fidanza's aluminum flywheel, which worked great. I was told the aluminum flywheel was going to be noisy and rev up too fast. I could not hear any difference when I was in the car and it operated very well. The car was rear ended and totalled, but I saved all the drive train, engine, trans and suspensions. I have a '95 auto trans daily driver that I will put the ZF 6-speed in, with the Fidanza's aluminum flywheel, when the auto trans goes bad.
