Default flywheel/clutch advice needed.....

my dual mass flywheel crapped out and it was replaced with a fidanza aluminum one. The new clutch wasn't a "sprung hub" and there is a lot of chatter now. Should I go back to a dual mass flywheel or get a sprung-hub clutch?

I'm not familiar with clutches on the C4, I am with older cars though. Anyway, it's always a good idea to replace parts like what the General had installed, like an aftermarket that's of the same quality.

The Dual Mass flywheel is specifically designed to keep the chatter under control. Virtually every CF member that has change to a single mass flywheel, to include the GM single mass, all got chatter. The only known way to eliminate it is to go back to a dual mass flywheel. It is just the nature of the C4. Most people just learn to live with it. Afterall, a new GM dual mass is quite expensive.

The chatter isn't anything bad. Just there. If you can't live with it, you'll have to buy a dual-mass FW. And sell me your Fidanza

I'm interested in this too. Also does anyone have a sound clip of the chatter with the single mass Fidenza?
How objectionable is it (I know the noise level is objectionable for some people and acceptable by others) a lot louder or a little louder?

It only does in when it's in neutral.

I'm hoping my twin disk setup won't be as loud as the one's I've heard.

Get a sprung hub clutch.

Im running fidanza aluminum flywheel w/ a SPEC stage III+ spring hub clutch.

I dont have any objectionable issue with noise.

Its like adding an intake, you can hear it if you want to (ex. lugging your car in too-high-of-a-gear up a hill).

Under full acceleration, you hear some slight chatter, but it adds some thrill to it all.

really, its no issues with a sprung hub clutch. You dont want any of those puck type clutchs (that look like a fan blade), or anything like that.

I am going to be looking at a clutch replacement in the not-so-far future. Sounds like the dual mass FW is the way to go (I hate chatter), but what does that do for clutch/PP choices? I'm all for strong push for the pedal if needed (think old cars), but really want lots of pressure on the FW.

I just went through some interesting clutch issues. When we took the blown motor out of the car the clutch chattered like hell and made an incredible amount of noise once the tranny was hot and the car was in neutral with the clutch out. We took out a SPEC stage 4, which is an un-sprung pucked clutch. It chewed the hell out of the flywheel as well as the clutch plate. It was the previous owner's idea to install it.

We replaced the Fidanza insert with a new one, and installed a new SPEC stage 2+. I will say that I got the clutch very quickly, within 2 days, but I had to go to another shop instead of SPEC, direct from SPEC was $100 over what I was quoted from a place called big 3 performance up in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

The new clutch has very little chatter compared to the old clutch and is significantly quieter. It feels to have a comparable level of grip, but it's hard to tell because I'm still breaking it in. 500 miles before I can "hard launch" it...

Hello,

Thanks for contacting Fidanza. Our flywheels will work with any pressure plate that will bolt up to a stock flywheel. Here are the clutch kits that we offer for the 1991 Corvette that have a sprung hub clutch disc:

1989-1993 Chevrolet Corvette 5.7L
#391831 Level 2.1 - carbon/kevlar full-face sprung-hub
#391832 Level 3.2 - kevlar 4-puck sprung-hub
#391833 Level 4.3 - ceramic 6-puck sprung-hub

1989-1993 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 5.7L
#391841 Level 2.1 - carbon/kevlar full-face sprung-hub
#391842 Level 3.2 - kevlar 4-puck sprung-hub
#391843 Level 4.3 - ceramic 6-puck sprung-hub

Our flywheels will also work with most aftermarket sprung-hub clutch discs.

Thank You,

Brad Bojc

Just Buy a sprung hub unit, call Tom at Carolina Clutch and he will sell you what you need.

The disc is the cheap part really

I have a RAM organic disc that I used for less than 200 miles, took it out becasue it would smell weird when I slipped the clutch on a hill. Wife kept accusing me of farting LOL

$50 shipped
