My new 2149 Hooker headers arrived yesterday. Gawd they're pretty. But since my 85 dosen't need the EGR connection on the right header, does anyone have any ideas how to neatly remove this appendage without ruining the nice shiny silver ceramic coating?
You could cut it close to the tube and leave an inch, thread it, and add a stainless pipe cap. i have the same ones but I am going to retain my emissions for the strict MA testing.
yeah, but that requires some work since mine's an auto .. not much room under there to move the cats back
You have the LT-1 exhaust,,,allyou have to do is remove the resonator and put two 2.5" side in/out cats in it's place, staggered one in front of the other. You will have to add about 10" of pipe on each to equal the length of the removed resonator.
These cat's can be had for as little as $150 for both of them.

Hhhhm mm.. did not know that. I'll keep that in mind if my car doesn't pass emissions and I need to replace my cats. I'll put full length headers and new cats on then ;)

Don't want to bust any bubbles, but :nonod: that won't work. You can replace the resonator with a single 3 inch cat, or put the cats where the mufflers are.
The hookers I got were well worth the $445 I spent. ;)
Well, technically just because it has cats doesn't mean it will pass emissions. I know in California you are not allowed even to move the position of the cats. This makes sense when you think about it as the specific placement of the cats in the exhaust system effects their operation due to how quickly they light-off. I suppose moving the cats downstream in an LT1 might cause it to have higher cold-start emissions. Also, if the headers do not have a CARB EO #, for your particular year, it is not legal. Some places are not sticklers for this much detail and will just pass the car, others will fail you on the spot. Again, I'm not familar with the emissions laws in your state.
What?

How do you get an exhaust shop to do that. I went to several places and they told me that if your car came with one cat and you wanted to put on two seperate ones it would not be legal and they wouldn't do that. I would like to know where I could go to have it done, because I want a true dual system with cats because I would like to keep my car as legal as possible.
I've had the same problem at most of the exhaust shops around here. Finally I found my new guy, Muffler Man in Placentia, Ca, and he is totally willing to help me out. Of course, I was clearly informed that my car would be illegal in terms of emissions, and I let him know that the car was only going to be used for off-road racing. That was enough for him, he deals with a lot of SCCA race cars so it wasn't a big deal. So my suggestion is to find a shop that deals with race cars and go that route.
