The last Duralast battery I had crapped out 1 week after the free replacement warrantee expired. Delco batteries are supposed good. That's what I have in the 85 now.
There is one in my car since I bought it no problems here. Started right up even after sitting under the cover out side in CT. I'm happy with it so far
OK guys let me tell you something about Delco Battery I work in a Pontiac/Buick dealer and I change so many of these battery it's a joke they all start leaking acid out of the side terminals. I would not put one in my car. If you like cleaning that white corrosion up install one. The head tech I work with says he doesn't know what is going on with them. He said they use to be Great battery but now they are made like crap. Must have moved the Plant to Mexico!!
I've got the Red Top battery and love it. Duralast? Isn't that the Advance brand? Well I've got some mixed feelings about them. I know two people who use them. One is on a 95 Z-28 and he bought one brand new and it was dead within a week. The other one is on a 95 Z-28 and it works just fine.
I am fairly certain that Car #1 has a short somewhere that is killing the battery, we just haven't got around to trying to track it down yet. Car #2 is in good shape and hasn't had the first problem. So I guess the battery itself it just fine. If you have something that is killing you battery, find that first or you're just wasting your time.
shopping for batteries, looking at optima and duralast
anyone heard anythingabout Duralast?
720 COLD CRANKING AMPS (900 CRANKING AMPS)

Yep. Good battery. I have had one since this past summer. It hasn't let me down yet. I've driven the Vette on some VERY cold days/mornings and it never hesitated to start despite sitting outside all night and cranking over in 12 deg weather.
Somewhat, every new car has SOME constant drain. My car can sit for a month and still start, yet the the cable sparks when I remove it. If we ever get the car in question running we'll get tehcnical. We'll measure the current draw while sitting and then start pulling fuses. When it falls dramatically we found our problem :)
I have two of them, one in my vette, and one in my truck, and they work great. The vette sits for months and fires right up, something the Delco never did. For the money, Duralast are great.

Re: Duralast Battery - Is it good? (Smash)
I put a Delco battery in my vette and right at 19 months it went bad. Died with absolutely no warning. I drove out to Placerville for a wedding. One hour later when I came out and turn the key nothing happens. Not even the slightest hint of power. After I get home the battery will not take a charge. Another vette owner tells me he just replaced his Delco due to acid leakage from the terminal just like John G 92 said. Ruined the cable too. I check around and the warranty on the Duralast is longer than the Delco. The important "full replacement" period is a lot longer for the Duralast, so I tried a Duralast. It's been over a year with no problem. The vette sits in the garage during the rainy season and so far the car has always fired right up no matter how long since the last run. Seems like a pretty good deal.
And no, you cannot tell if you have an abnormal electrical drain on newer cars if there are sparks when attaching the cable. With the use of computers and radios that "remember" your station picks, there is always some slight drain on the battery so you will see a spark. GM put out a TSB Technical Service Bulletin for abnormal current drain on early 86? - 88 vettes. You might want to look that up and see if it applies to your vette.
