Default Intake Install Up Date

The Edelbrock Intake and Runner install is not doing well.
  • I started today by clearing the codes
  • I then started the engine and got a code 34 MAF sensor
  • Engine has no power and did not want to rev
  • Finally got engine to idle around 820 - 840 RPM
  • Stepped on gas and engine coughed through intake (backfire)
  • Unplugged MAF and was able to get the car on the road
  • Runs bad below 2400 RPM but strong above 2600 RPM
  • Idle around 660 RPM checked for vaccume leaks with starting fluid but found none
  • Appears to be running very rich (spits sout out the exhaust)
  • Checked codes and got 24, 33, 34C
I think I will give up on the Edelbrock manifold and runners. I will spend the rest of the day cleaning up my stock parts and reinstall them ASAP.

Can anyone offer a better option? Any suggestions will be appreciated!

Taking all that that off again really sucks, before doing that recheck your timing see where the rotor is pointing @ TDC compression stroke #1 cylinder, don’t use the timing tab in case your harmonic balancer has slipped. From one of your previous posts some one suggested checking your cold start injector for leaks. Recheck all your connections, are you still running an EGR? Also in the other post you said you cleaned MAF with non MAF cleaner would be nice if you could get one to test with. You have done a lot of work on this, and it’s a shame to remove it all and go back to stock. You might try doing a smoke test on the system also looking for vacuum leaks. Good Luck

I think you'll do with them on, just take some time step back, and trace out the problems.

I am still running the EGR and I replaced it with a new AC Delco unit when I did the install. I also replaced the Air Intake Temperature sensor. Tomorrow I will try the smoke test. I did have it idleing today and tested all the gasket areas with starter fluid inparticular the cold start injector. No change in idle. I still think it is a vaccume leak because at high RPMs it runs very strong. I have all the old parts cleaned up so I can paint them tomorrow. If I can't find the problem I will probably pull off the new intake an install the old. Thiss is very disapointing! Thanks to all who tried to help.

most likely simple mistake retrace step back and focus on what you know if you tear it down you may never find the malf and may still have the malf..theres an easy to determine if dist is stabbed right.. loosen the hold nut and turn ietherway slightly ,,,should run both directions eventually killin motor but stabbed wrong will kill motor abruptly and barely run and hard to start no matter which direction so my thoughts are in the area of a bad vac leak explains why strong up higher

also your description of the way ur vette runs has some characteristics of a bad mass air especially if spits mass code if you so much as leave it disconnected it trips the light so no mass air prob,,no light my snap-on-scan-tool even reccomends disconnecting mass air when certain codes appear or symptoms to help diagnose,,bad mass air can act exactly like weak fuel pump until disconnected will run almost flawless
