Default Delay Relay for interior lights 1985 Coupe

I am looking for the location of a time delay relay or the interior lights. I am unable to get the lights on from the light switch or door switches and have tracked it to a ground problem. The manual shows a delay relay for turning the lights off in some cars, and I would like to know the locatiion of the relay.

Thanks

In my 87, it is located behind the "breadbox" on passenger side of dash, above the ECM

That's the spot. It's not clipped or attached to anything, just sort of "floating" around in there.

It's also, a replacement, not available anyplace, BTW - long since discontinued and impossible to find. I actually have a theater dimming unit from a Ford/Mazda that I plan to wire in to Mine, someday.

Meanwhile the thing is removed and the wires jumpered together. No delay but the lights at least Work.

Not quite correct, if it's never been touched it is actually taped up to the harness, making it that much harder to find. You can find one once in a while on ebay. One seller had a NOS one , he wanted over $100. for it. I got one from Jay at Vette2Vette, 815 673-6200. It has an irregular shape so I suggest looking at a pic of one on ebay so you know what to look for.

There is an easier way to bypass the relay. Drop the hush panel on the passenger side and look for the white wire that goes to the light. Next remove the door sill so you can access the door pin switch in the door jam. There is a white wire, sometimes two, going to the pin switch. Run a jumper wire between the two white wires and the relay will be bypassed. This is much easier than hunting for the relay which is hard to access unless you know exactly where it is. The door pin switch will be used to ground the interior lights. This was suggested by a forum member, and is what I did to fix mine.
