Seems they started selling online when the locals wouldn't buy there stuff.
That said, forum members who have bought them seem to be happy.
Well that's a mixed review.
The engine guy I had been setting this up with is backed up several weeks so I'm kind of in a bind. I was hoping to get through half the year before the engine went away so I could take my time putting it together.
I have to admit that I'm a little hesitant to give someone several thousand dollars based on an internet website.
They seem to have pretty decent prices on engines. Mine just went south and I need to replace it.
I bought my 383 short block from Golen about 3 or so years ago. 35,000 miles later and I am still very happy with my decision.
I can't say enough good things about Chad. Service was great. It arrived qwickly and safely at my front door via tractor trailer. The quality is top notch. I would recommend him to anyone.
GMHTP Magazine has done several articles on him. You should be able to go to that site and search for him.
I'm getting my new motor from cnc-blocks northeast. He was able to get me a few parts/block cheaper than Golen so i made the switch. But i originally was going back to Golen since my first motor went well.
id just stay local personally. find a good rep shop and use them. support local business
I'd love to but none of the shops close by know Gen II LT1 engines and I want to do a 383. I mention the Opti and the reverse flow heads and they just get glassy eyed and don't know what I'm talking about.
I have a guy in South Carolina lined up that really knows LT1 engines but he's backed up for another week yet before he can even start on mine. I guess I'll just wait for him to have time.
Side note: I sent an e-mail to Golen per the instructions on their website a couple of days ago and haven't gotten a response. I won't ask twice to give someone 6 or 7 grand.
Are you looking for a complete motor? shortblock is pretty much the same as any gen I motor. Any decent shop should beable to do a bottom end build for you. Setting up the heads is the same way too. Just need to get LT1 style heads
Like discussed in our pm's, chad sometimes takes a few days to respond. He does get alot of emails.
well i have seen mixed reviews on golen or any other engine builder. VRE is a good one as well. if ya dont go local just choose one and go with it. i have seen good things from golen and heard bad things. but again you are gonna get that about everything usually. VRE was gonna be my choice.

, if you can't go with a local company.
I've heard mostly good things about VRE and Golen. I've also heard just a couple of complaints. I would search all the LT1 boards looking for opinions before making a decision that big and costly. There are many of these motors in other LT1 cars as well. You will find mostly happy customers and a couple of dissatisfied/complaint posts.

Once you find a good local machinist you will never look at mail order blocks again.
Anyone good in La. to recomend for when the time comes? I've heard good things about Shreeves but the shops no longer there. I think they may have moved to a different location. I've also done business before with Harahan Automotive.
