I am looking for a torque converter recommendation. 100 % stock with an exhaust and 2:73's. Do I keep the lock-up or not? I read through some threads but everyone seems to have some mods or an LT car.
B&M or P.I.? any difference? 2000, 2400, 2600? Any part numbers available?
Keep the lock up. As for a stall, you really won't want to go past 2400 in my book -- at least with your mods. Throw a miniram, or a cam at it and I'd say differently. My .02.
I ran 2800 on my L98 with 2.77 gears with full exhaust being the only mods and the car was a blast! Performed very well. Cut 1.88-1.89 60's on street tires at the track, was in the 1.7's with slicks. Not bad for a stock L98 with exhaust with those gears.
LT1's have a nice flat torque curve so I'd get something around 2600 or so for a more street driver. It will work nicely, even with those gears.
KEEP THE LOCKUP!!! You need it, its very nice to have and wont overheat the trans. Lockup makes any converter for a 700r4/4l60e streetable. I ran 3600 just fine, as once it locked up it was like a stock car cruising around. No problems. With it unlocked, it got annoying and rpms were high, heating the trans up

After years of bad experiences with B&M and especially TCI, I found a local company that builds my converters. There are many of them out there, likely within 50 miles of your home.
2500 rpm stall, and lock up would be my recommendation for you.
Trans shop close to me gave me a total price of 500.00 for a 2400 converter and installation. I think its a Dayco converter. I know this is not a name brand performance converter but......
For a street car that is barely driven, do you think this converter will be as good as a TCI or B&M?
Dayco as in the same company that makes the belts for your pulleys/accessories? I'd use TCI over any non-brand out there. Better converter is worth the extra money
The transmission fluid was bright pink when I got it, and still is. My Firebird's fluid has been getting burnt for at least 5 years now, it has double the miles, and no problems.
