I have my plenum off now and I was wondering; I have no cats or air pump. Can I take off my egr crap and not have any problems? Has anyone simply removed it all without effecting engine performance? I know what it does already so no need to explain the egr function. I just need to hear from people that have removed it. Thanks.
KY, I always want to say Jelly when I see your name (sorry)
To answer your question. I removed mine when I completed installing the items in my sig and I have had no problems or codes yet. I have probably driven ~40 miles since the install. I removed / did not install any of the stuff. I did the other day go back to start tuning and started out with the ARAP code and within that I disabled the EGR function. But I did not notice anything with it enabled either. I would say go for it. I have heard people say that it will throw a code 32, but mine never did and yes my SYS light works. Hope this helps. Good luck.

PS what kind of steering wheel is that. I would like to get one that looks like a newer car, full in the middle. I think the ones that are on the cars are a bit cheesy. Thanks.
Maybe I should change my name to KYJelly, Ha Ha. I just put a cheap cover on the steering wheel to protect it from the sun and my greasy hands. Thanks for the input on the egr issue. I'll probably remove all the stuff.
yeah, maybe you should if your hand are always greasy! That would be a roll! Thanks for the chuckle and good luck. Let me know how you make out.

Re: Getting Rid of EGR (KYVette90)
If I were doing it, which I wouldn't bother as it only effects part throttle operation and then only under certain circumstances, I would get a custom chip to deal with the issues when the ecm expects to find egr operation. IE, fuel trims and timing tables will probably need some adjustment.
Also with the egr removed and the programming is not done, knock is likely to result causing some retard of the timing.
My EGR was bad when I got the car and it didn't throw a code around town. Once I got her on the highway and over a steady 2,000rpm for several minutes up came the code and it ran like crap till I stopped and cycled power to the ignition.
If you want to fool the ECM I suggest you route the EGR command signal back to the temp sensor input. The ECM looks for a low signal on the sensor and it grounds the solenoid to enable the EGR, so in theory this "should" work.
Of course the potential of ping from the hotter chamber temps is another story. I'm sure if you did the heads and either block or gasket to reduce quench area you could eliminate this issue.
I'll be intersting to hear how this mod worked out for you.
I've seen several Corvettes and Camaros that had bad egr valves and the cars still ran perfect. I've been getting a code 32 for the past 4 years and my car runs with no problems. I don't know anybody who has seen a change in performance by repairing their non-funtional egr system, other than the vaccum leaks it causes. I would really like to hear from people that have removed it without any changes to their chip and with no problems. I've heard several "if'y" answers on the forum but nothing concrete. My egr control solenoid allows vaccum through when it is deenergized, is it supposed to do that?

KY I'am in the same boat you are in . No cat bad EGR Sys 32 after 10 mins driving. I was going to put a new egr in but after reading this forum I'am going to take the air pump out and do something with the egr. Good luck. Let me know if you run into any good ideas. Thanks :D :seeya
Pete, I didn't mean your post was iffy I meant over the past year or so not many definite answers have been given on this topic, and I do appreciate the help. Thanks :D
