I've got a starting problem with my 86 auto.
It began like this: When it's cold, it starts right up (instantly). After it's warmed up, stopped, and it's parked for a couple of hours, it takes several revs to start it. If it's warm, stopped, and it's been parked only a few minutes, it starts right up. That's been going on for about 2 months.
Now it only starts after several revs, even when cold. It's getting worse.
Any ideas?
BTW
New fuel filter, new ignition parts from ignition module to plugs and everything in between.
Once it's running, it runs great, no stalls, smooth idle, no hestiations.
Guys,
I had the same problem with mine. I tried to check for leaky injector by flooring the car before startup for ~60sec then leaving off and starting car. Still did the same therefor not a leaky injector. I did however have a tip to burn a new chip with the Crank fuel PW multiplier vs. Reference pulses (1-16) slightly modified. If you have the capabilities to burn then go to this table and you will notice that cells 1-8 are all 0.00 This is the problem. I chanded them to .5 as is cells 9 & 10 and the problem was gone! With my new setup I have the long crank again, but went back to the base chip for tuning purposes. I am curious to see if this fixes the problem again, as it did the first time. Just before you get all hyped about this. I would definately make sure that IAC and everything else is working as should be or you may call me a liar :p:

It sounds like injectors and will get progressively worse. When my car was cold, a stiff breeze on the key would start it. Drive it and park it for a few hours, after about three or four seconds of cranking the car would start and rumble roughly then smooth out. If I drove an hour, shut it off and tried restarting it, it would fire but if it sat, no start unless I floored it and cranked for a while. Everyone said injecotrs. I swapped in new injectors Saturday and now it ALWAYS starts right away no matter what. There are usually some for sale in the C4 section. I paid $125 for some from a forum member for Ford Motor Sport 24 lb injectors.

I've got something similiar, but my morning cold startup is very slow. It backfires cold and I have to let the car warm up for 5 minutes before it will take any accel pedal action without backfiring and snuffing the engine. Also, once it is warmed, the check engine light comes on and stays on for the duration of my morning commute (30-45 minutes). After that the check engine light wont come on anymore until the next morning. Im thinking this is a combination of a few diffeent things. Looks like the plugs are Delco plugs (old), wires, and possible injectors? I'll be having a tune-up done on the car in the next week or so since I just bought the car. Should I replace these things before the tune-up, after the tune-up, or does the chip need programming as well?

To answer the original post, I would say definately injectors. I had the exact same problem with my 88 IROC. I swapped in 23# Accel's and it fires right up any time of the day. It turned out 2 of them were leaking.
