I know there are a bunch of people running carb here..
Just putting my car together.. it was a TPI car and now i've converted to carb
I'm using an airtex carb fuel pump, 5-9psi output, holley regulator - 5 1/2 psi - and edelbrock 750cfm carb
I was previously running a TBI fuel pump from an '84 vette but it was too much for the regulator and needed a return line.. so i went with a pump made just for what i'm doing
The car will run for 5 or 10 seconds and die right away. If i try to coax it to keep running, it shoots gas out the top of the carb and sometimes a fireball
How do I get this thing to run somewhat decent?
I'm a complete newbie to carbs!
Do you have a fuel pressure gauge to make sure your pressure is staying at 5.5 psi ? Check your timing also, good luck.
Also check the float levels on that edelbrock, I have had a few Edels that came NIB w/floats out of adjustment. The little book that came w/the carb explains how to do this.

Yeah, the floats were hanging an inch too low. That stopped the fuel from bleeding into the carb when the car isn't running... but it still dies after a few seconds
on a quadra junk if the needle and seat hang up,gas will shoot out the vent, never messed with a carter.Backfire out the carb is timing or dizzy not installed correct.
