I have a small battery looking thing with a mounting bracket on it. When the wires broke my tach quit. What is this and can I find it at a NAPA or somthing like this. 87
Its called a tach filter, it deciphers the signal coming from the distributor, you can get one at any of the Corvette parts sites. Takes about a half hour to fix, take off the old, put on the new, pretty easy..WW
OK. MR NICE says he just straight wired it with no filter. Will that work for the time being or is he thinking of something else. Or will I fry my cluster or somthin.

I have never heard of anyone hooking it up direct. If it didn't need a tach filter it probable wouldn't have one.Why take a chance?..WW
Well what ended happened to mine was the wires broke off inside the filter. So I took a peice of paperclip and shoved it in and soldered it into the filter. Then I soldered the wires to the paper clip and all is well. I then put lots of brush on electrical tape on the soldered parts and heat shrinked over that to strengthen the joint. Then I loomed it up real nice to look good again. Just incase anyone has the same problem make sure you clean it well with brake clean to get all the oil and dirt off of it. The solder works best that way.
Its a rubberized liquid coating, that acts just like electrical tape but you can brush it on and it doesnt look like crap when its real thick it just looks like shrink tube.
