Default Front Hub Replacement Question

Any noise in front hubs is not good so they have to go. My question is: has anyone used other than GM hubs on their vette? Brand names - how long have U had them - happy with them?

Ive got a pair of them from autozone (I used to work there). I think they were around 135 ea. Ive got around 8000k on them and no complaints yet. They fit perfectly and fixed my problem. I dont recall the brand maybe Timkin.

hope this helps

This comes up often. I think it was h rocks who initially let us all in on the secret that GM used NDH New Departure Hyatt as a source for the original "geunine" GM bearing hubs. PepBoys and AutoZone among others sell this hub in a box labeled SKF or Chicago Rawhide. When you take the hub from the box it will have a sloppy gray primer paint job. You will swear it isn't a factory replacement. When you remove the original hub from your vette or go to the dealer and see what they give you, you will see that the "genuine" GM part is indeed an NDH hub. The key is to look for the letters NDH on the hub seal or on the reverse side of the hub where it says "Made in USA". PepBoys and many of the aftermarket parts places use BR90023 and BR90024 for the front and rear part numbers. SKF/Chicago Rawhide provide a lifetime warranty for about $135. Mr Gougewrench wants about $250 and will warranty it only for about 12 months. You do the math.

Mike pretty much nailed it...keep in mind that many places arent giving that"Lifetime" warranty anymore..theyre giving 90 days!!!!!

My rear hubs were from Preppy Boys and I recieved the lifetime warranty. Those were chicago rawhides boxes.

For my other car, I bought the hubs from autozone and theyre "Timken" brands which to me looked identical to the GM unit and the CR units. They were a bargain and I got them for 79.00.They looked just like the Vette hub and Im even wondering if its the same thing but sold for a FWD car and cheaper due to the name.
Worked flawlessly with no problems.
I think H rocks mentioned something about Timken as well and a few people here agreed they used timken bearings and was also a quality piece. If someone disagrees, correct me there.
Cant go wrong with either of them I think.
:)

Allright! We can get SKF, Timkin and NDH here also. Pep Boys - no. So what I need are part #'s for either of the the above 3 or Mike - are the ones you quoted earlier BR90023 the number for the front hubs? Thank you, once again goes to prove Forum people are the best! Thanks for the help eh!
P.S. retail for these parts at the GM dealer is around Cdn. $550. (x2 of course) but they will sell for $350.00 per hub. Deal, not!?

what advanced auto is doing is giving a lifetime warrantee on the first part, but if you ever claim on the warrantee - the replacement only has a 90 day warrantee!!!!

My rear advanced auto bearings are just fine.

gee.... you must be rich. :jester

a lot of the parts that GM sells are made by other companies. The scary part is that when Lopez (a product czar from Spain, worked at VW) was in charge of procurment for GM, he ordered them to cut costs or he would cut them. they did... at the expense of quality.

I suspect that some of the aftermarket parts are actually better than the factory GM part in some respects.

By the way, Lopez was almost killed in a car wreck... he was also charged with steeling corporate secrets... a real gem.

"...gee...you must be rich".....Hey bogus...I used to be    ...actually, I got a 4 year/50,000 mi. extended warranty when I bought it over a year ago and so far, even though nothing has given me any trouble...my mechanic, for some reason, talked me into getting all new GM calipers, wheel bearings, rotors and pads(I had to pay for the rotors and pads since they were standard wear parts) and a radiator...but every other drivetrain and other part on the car except for body parts and clutch, and radio are supposedly fully covered under warranty)...I guess the mechanic was pushing me to complain about getting new parts so he could get the labor charge($75/hr) to his credit...Theres no way I'm gonna complain to anyone about the new stuff I got put on under warranty...   ...so you can see why I use all new GM parts...THEY ARE FREE(mostly)...   (oh yea, I forgot to mention the $2500 I had to plop down for the warranty...    )...My mechanic said I can easily "rebuild" just about my entire vette mechanically and do so legitamately while he gets rich...so I'm on my way to getting a "new 1995 Vette"... :smash:  :smash: ...now lets hope I don't wreck it or all the warranty will be up in smoke...
Oh yea, I've also been told that if "anything" happens to the $7,000 6 Sp. ZF, they don't fool with it...they just put a new one in... :D    :seeya
