Default Moog Ball Joint Zerk Fitting Install

I know this is kind of a silly question, but is there a trick to installing them. They said self tapping bolt on the bag. I tried just screwing it in with a socket attached to a screw driver. Got maybe two threads in then stripped the threads and the zerk backed out. Do you need to tap the ball joint hole first with a tap?

I'd try a socket and ratchet and keep pressure on the head of the ratchet while turning--the fitting should tap its own threads--but they can be a PIA.

Default poor design from viking era

the zerks will 'usually' self-tap if you use heavy force and don't screw 'em in as far as you'd like ...but many will be 'angled' and some 'strip' as yours did (drill hole and use next larger zerk is repair)...i use a tap with the end ground shorter (most joints have too shallow a hole to use a 'standard issue' tap)

You have to align them up just right and get it started by hand, then tighten with a wrench.
