There is a 2 letter code stamped on the steel cover that seals the bottom of the input shaft.
I have two std racks here coded FH
Trying to find my archived info
I have a Z51 rack out of my 96, with new inner tie rod ends.
I thought the rack was bad, but it turned out to be the PS pump.
so the rack is perfect at 24000 miles.
Appears I may have lucked out & got a Z51 rack in the rebuild/swap. I installed last night & have just a fraction over 1 full turn in each direction, lock 2 lock.
There bottom cover on this rack is blank but may have been replaced in the rebuild?
Sound right on the lock 2 lock turns??

Reason: spelling fix
Most people get this wrong, but it is 2 turns lock to lock for a Z51 and a Z52. 2.5 turns for a base model... When I originally had mine redone, people told me all kinds of lock to lock numbers. The book says 2 turns, the parts suppliers say 2 turns, the GM techs at the chevy dealer say 2 turns, and my Z52 has 2 turns!
Make sure you test you rack when you get it... the GM dealer got the wrong one in twice, and a defective one once, glade they had to pay all the labor for their suppliers mistakes
Thanks for the update... Will check it again tonight for a full lock to lock count. I know when I counted from the center it sure wasn't much more than 1 full turn to lock... didn't seem like 1/4 of a turn. Maybe 1/8? But the lock is caused by the nylon bushing at each end of the rack as it hits the rack housing. Any variation in the size of that bushing will cause some change.
Rack was sourced from a local Kragen auto which carries Cardone rebuilt parts. I selected it based
on price & it comes w/ a limited lifetime warranty... Other rebuilds all were only 1 year.

Your lock to lock might go over by an 1/8th to a 1/4th of a turn, thats kinda normal. Annd just so people know, the performance rack can be used on base models without modification.
Bad news... new rack pukes fluid out the pinion seal like a mother.... vendor is getting me a new Delco model to replace it in the AM... Time is of the essence with an Auto-x on Sat that is a 5 hour drive.
I have pics & my service manual but can someone confirm that the high pressure line is the lower fitting on the rack. Return is higher up or closer to the steering pinion input.

thx!
Like I mentioned before, I had mine replaced afew times because the dealer kept getting in wrong or defective parts... What I paied was worth them doing the labor 4 or 5 times, and not me. Pluse I still have about 6 months of warranty left on the thing! F replacing the rack more than once on my own!
