Default Inflatable Restraint Light -1990 C4

I have followed the threads on the correction of the "INFL RES" light remaining on - sand off the sensor, apply dielectic grease and reprogram. Ran into a couple of problems after the fix:

- When I jumped out the "A" and "B" ports on the receptacle under the dash all I got was code "12" - never really saw a code 16

- When the A & B ports were jumped out, the radiator fan went on(?)

The INFL REST light does not blink it just stays on with the seat belt light.

The "Service Engine Soon" light keeps blinking "12" for infinitum.

Am I missing something?????

Any input would be appreciated.

"A" would be ground but you have to go to pin "K" located on 2nd row ...3rd pin from the right....you may be using the wrong spots terminal pins to clear codes....I like to gound to my seat frame....

Last year I thought I had mine fixed after reading all the great info on here. Cleaned the sensors (maybe not well enough), dielectric grease, bought the mid-america grounding tool, did the 3-3-10 thing and the lights went away for a month.
Now, the tool still works but sometimes the lights come back on within 10 seconds and sometimes it may take a day. All the codes flash 12 before and after and I'm going crazy.
An occasional 26 code pops up and I let it sit for a while and I'm back to all 12's. And sometimes my kid gets in the car and when he closes the passenger door, whooomp, there it is.
Reclean, resand and star washers are what I'm not looking forward to, but if I have to, I have to.
Any suggestions before I do this again?
Thanks.

j721 a code 26 is the right front frame sensor. You also said that when the kid gets in the car it happens sometimes. Does he get in the passenger side? I've heard of this one time cause the connector for the sensors is down in the footwell area and are not connected very tightly and could come apart causing the code 26 to set. DISCONNECT THE BATTERY! and peel back the carpet down in the footwell and check the connection. (the connector and wire pigtail are colored yellow) It wouldn't be a bad idea when your down there to OHM the sensor to make sure it's not bad. Pipe

Kubs the Sensors are on the frame rails under the hood close to the firewall. Gotta look hard to see em. Sometimes you can cure the problem sometimes by cleaning the bottoms of the sensors and the frame area where the sensor sits. Take a dremel tool and clean the paint and rust, corrosion off the areas and apply a coat of dielectric grease to both and reinstall them and use a small star washer on the bolts to help ground it better. Clear the codes and see if the lights go out. If not then one of the sensors is bad. Most of the time it's the right front sensor that's bad. When doing any work on these sensors remember to DISCONNECT THE BATTERY and wait about ten mins. before working on em. Mid America sells a button gadget w/instructions on how to diagnose and clear these codes $20 Pipe

Thanks for the info, Pipe. I'm going to do it tomorrow a.m.
Yeah, the little fellow gets in the passenger side as he is only 13. As far as him driving it, he will have to wait until he is 16, sneak out his window at 2 a.m., push the car out of the driveway and then start it a few houses down. You know, just like we used to do with our dad's car.
In any case, those lights will pop on almost any time he gets in or even if I go over some bumps in the road. I'm so hoping it is a bad connection under the carpet. The past couple of days I use the grounding tool and it will come back on almost immediately. I'm telling you, one of the happiest days in my life lately was when those lights finally went out. And conversely, it has been one of the most annoying things since they started again.
I'll let you know how things look. Thanks again.

Hmmm sounds like a loose connection or a bad ground. Check it out and let us know. Pipe

So far, so good. The connection didn't look or feel loose, but I took it out and jiggled and tightened it. I just came back from a ride that would also usually cause the lights to pop on (bumpy side of the road, speed bumps, etc) and it looks like "you da man".
I appreciate the knowledge and input. Thanks.

The airbag will not deploy but there are no other effects as far as performance is concerned.
