I am not surprised that it did happen. I was suprised how easy it happened. Do the axles slowly twist over time, and than finally let loose, or is just one day they break? 6 speed lt4 4.10 gear street tire at the track. I got out about 50 foot when it broke. It was spinning but not very hard. I am guessing it was damaged before this is. First pass in 2 years. Next where is the best place to get a replacement
I was able to break the outer stub axles virutally at will with my car when I had a McLeod twin disk. I swapped to a Centerforce (which has WAY less hit when I let it rip) and haven't broken anything since.
I broke 6 or 7 outer stubs, a couple half shafts, ring gear, pinion gear, etc... I was getting stock replacement units from Contemporary Corvettes.
I eventually upgraded to the larger diameter spindles and hub bearings available at www.summersbrothersracing.com. The upgrade is expensive, north of $1000, but I don't know anyone that has broken one.
Just a stock clutch. I just ordered a stock replacement axle. The axle looks cheaper and easy to replace than other rear end parts. It was claimed to have the gladiator center section from exotic muscle when I bought the car. I don't know if that is and better than stock or if it really has one? Not ready to upgrade that far yet I do launch pretty hard for street tires (sumos 1.70 60s) but never shock it on the launch I will blame the burnout maybe.
