Default Craig Moates ECM Adapter!!!

I just received a pre-production ECM adapter from Craig Moates. This thing is awesome!

For those not familiar with the threads about this: It's a MemCal to ECM adapter that allows straight-through reading of the "limp-home" chips, while not connecting the EPROM on the MemCal. Instead, a ZIF socket is provided for insertion of your own custom (or OEM) EPROM, which is read instead of the MemCal EPROM. If you've seen the pictures of the Jet adapter, it's a lot like that. This adapter eliminates the need to desolder the GM EPROM and solder the Flash eprom (or ZIF socket) in it's place. The MemCal is not altered in any way, and remains fully functional.

The advantage is that you don't have to use UV to erase the MemCal EPROM; you can insert a Flash 29C256 chip and program it directly without UV erasing. (You do have to use a programmer; it's not in-place programmable).

Clearance problems are minimal; in a 165, some shimming (raising) of the ECM cover *may* be required; in a 730, the dimple in the MemCal access cover has to be eliminated. I'm just going to have a new cover made up.

Craig has pictures and prices on his site -

This is great!!! :D

Default Re: Craig Moates ECM Adapter!!! (Rich B.)

Just got an email from Craig; the first production run components should be in this week. Craig is looking to take orders now.

These work on both 165 and 730 ECMs; I can't say for sure about 727's because I don't have one (I only have 165 and 730).
