When I first got the car (3 years ago) 1984 700R4, the transmission stalls when going into reverse. When cold, it takes almost 10 seconds sometimes for the transmission to recognize it is in reverse. When warmed up, it acts normal.
Well today after driving 80 miles on the interstate, I got home and put the car in reverse to back over a small but steep hill. Giving the car gas to get over the little lump had no effect. I thought I had dug a huge hole but instead, it was almost like the car was in neutral. I let off the gas and the car rolled forward. My first thought was, oh sh*t. The transmission works fine in drive, just no power transmitting from the motor. When I put the car in reverse, it will still roll backwards, but revs up like in neutral. It seems the power from the motor isn't reaching the transmission.
I let the car cool down and checked the fluid. Fluid was fine and it still wasn't receiving power from the motor. What do you guys think?
