Default Progress: Transmission rebuild

The reverse recently went out in my transmission (700r4) so I am currently pulling the transmission out to get it rebuilt.

Today I got the car jacked up and secured with jack stands about 3 feet off the ground, the TV Cable loose and ready to pull down, the AIR Pump loose and ready to drop with the exhaust, O2 sensor unplugged, the braces underneath the exhaust manifold dropped down to get the exhaust manifold bolts loose.

I was tired of laying on my back and started to get frustrated so I called it a day.

Stay tuned...

Exhaust manifold bolts off, catalytic converter brace off, muffler hangers off

Also worth noting that two nuts on the right exhaust manifold were rounded off. After grinding the nuts and studs off...

Complete exhaust unit off

Driveshaft next

stay tuned...

Distributor off, electrical wires to the transmission off, driveline support beam loosened until I get the rest of trans loose.

Once again, stay tuned...

Good luck with your project. Be careful. By the way, where do you get 3 foot jackstands?

I'm not sure if it is 3 foot or not, just somewhere close to that. The jackstands are as far open as the can get with a bolt under them to hold it up. The jackstands are my dads so I have no idea where he got them.

3 foot jackstands? i've never heard of jackstands that big! are you're sure they're 3 feet high? i wouldn't trust anything over 18 inches... and even that should be plenty to get the tranny out from under the car. i know that for a fact because i've done it...

Edit... okay...maybe it was a little higher than 18 inches...

I bought 12 ton stands from northern tool when I did mine. You can get the same stands at harbor also.

http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/w...0725_200330725

When I pulled my transmission I had the stands at about 24 inches and that was high enough. If you make them to high it becomes difficult to reach things while lying comfortably flat.

Transmission is out FINALLY.

I was planning on getting it rebuilt to stock specs, but was curious to hear what you guys have to say.

I don't really want to have a hard shift like my camaro has (recently rebuilt with a shift kit), but I want it to have a smooth yet crisp shift when I "get on it."

Any suggestions you guys have?

Delivered to the transmission shop for a rebuild. It should be about two weeks before I get it back.
