Default anyone running a solid roller cam?

i was thinking of converting to a hydraulic roller, maybe the 280xfi.
i was playing around with compcams camquest6, and ran some solid roller cams. seems like a good increase in power, especially compared to the hyd flat. i was looking at the xr274r solid roller 274/280, 236/242@.05 110/106, .564/.570 lift. what do you think? i realize it could run around 1k for the upgrade. would it be worth it? what do they sound like? noisy?

I like solid cams too. However, after speaking with a number of knowledgeable dudes, including Lloyd Elliot and Andy Jensen, the consesus is that in that lift range, you would be better off going hyd. The reason is the vastly increased risk of spring and valvetrain fatigue.

Andy suggested an alternative by suggesting a hydraulic cam with solid roller lifters. You dont have to run really heavy springs, thereby increasing valve train and spring life. This is the route I most likely will take because I like the accuracy of solid lifters. Adjusting hyds can sometimes be a hit or miss. Anyway...I'll be watching this thread for other info.

You almost dont hear them at all. With a good roller rocker you very seldom need to adjust them. They rev real freely, kind of like an import.
Personally I love em, most the horror stories out there are just that...Stories or improper assebmbly. If youre going to DD the thing sitting in traffic all day then a SR may not be the hottest idea.
IMO when you get around the 240ish @ .05 youre at the crossover point but everyone looks at it differently.
