I have a 86 vette that has been rebuilt 350 bored .40 over with ported and polished heads, slp headers, 52mm tb, open air lid ported plenum, siasmse runners, no cats, flowmaster mufflers, hypertech chip, and .444/.444 cam I have been told that my that i have such a small cam. i am trying to decide should i change my cam or just get a set of 1.6 roller rockers, and if i change my cam what cam should i get i drive this car everyday and i go to the track a couple times a month. which should i do
Well first i want to know what hp numbers you would like and if you want to go all out or will be happy with a number like 300hp.
Other cams that might work, with some more intake work or SR/MR, would be a Competition Cams camshaft or the ZZ-9 from TPIS. You can also look on the TPIS.com site and see some of their setups if they still have them posted. You can see some of my future setup in my sig-i'm going for about 400 or so
I would think a roller cam and retrofit roller lifters will be the best thing you could do at this point...something like the 219 or even beefier would work well.
Well since youre going to use it as a daily driver i would suggest the Superram with an Accel 219 cam, AFR heads-i doubt that ported stock ones will do it, better exhaust, TPIS headers, no cat, bored out to 383. If yours is an auto, then also go up to 3.54s and a 2600-2800 stall with tranny cooler.
Now if you would really like more hp and are willing to lose a bit of torque and drivibility, then go to the Miniram. You wont necessarily lose street drivibility but you might. If you go MR, then call TPIS and ask about their setups. Also, the ZZ cams would be better, or maybe even something more aggressive
