Default Air Filter - K&N?

I'm new to my Vette, having it only for 6 weeks, and I replaced the stock air filter. I was shocked at the replacement cost: $75. K&N sells one for the same price, but I was wondering what others do for the air filter. Maybe there is a better brand than K&N?

I've been using the same K&N for 15 years.....just don't over oil it or it will mess up the MAF wire (if you have a MAF car)

After 251,000 miles, I noted some deterioration of the fabric material in my K&N Filter in my Suburban. A short call to K&N and email them a few photos as they requested and what do they do? Well, they shipped me a brand new one at no cost to me and I'm on my way. Always good for a company to stand behind their stuff.

Now 270K miles on the burb and no engine issues, original 350. Goes out to the dirty dusty back roads of KS for 3 months during hunting season every year since new in 94. No ill affects apparent from ingesting dirt.

had K & N on my 85 Subutrban before the 94.

Put one on the vette last year. Probably won't take it hunting though, too tough to get the Lab's crate in the back!

I use a K&N too, put it in about 6 months ago when I got my 2.5" exhaust and high flow cats. I only paid $50 new though.

Hi
I have an 85 4+3 z-51. I changed to K&N 10 years ago and have rinsed it and reoiled it. It works fine.
There is a drawback and that is if you oil it too much or what is too much? I had some deposits on the MAF wire which the burn off did not manage to burn away. I had a prolem with low BLM and used the CRC air sensor cleaner or MAF cleaner. Checked the BLMs after and they increased to normal values .
It looks like the filter is efficient after what has been stuck on the filter surface.. I am happy with it and will be more cautious with the oil hereafter

When I got my 85 five years ago I wanted a K&N, but I also wanted to keep money in my wallet. What I did was go to Home Depot and bought the best furnace/AC filter they had. One that stopped the smallest microns of dust and alergens.

I bought a second air cleaner lid and cut the opening out. Sandwiched the 2 furnace/AC filters in, lightly sprayed the filter material with WD-40 and put it on the car. For under $15 I have a free breathing filter that's doing the same thing an expensive K&N is doing. It works for me just fine.

This is what I've head also which is why I posted the question. I do have a K&N on my Ford F150 Crew Cab and its been working fine, but this is a Vette and wanted to know what others have done.

Now that is interesting. I would think that it would collect more dust by having it sprayed with WD40, but what about allowing enough air to go by the filter? Seems like those would be too restrictive.
