I posted the other day about coolant problems inside my '86. My first plan was to change the Thermostat due to temperature fluctuations. This probably won't solve the antifreeze smell but might cure the fluctuations. I am hoping the problem is not a head gasket since there are no other symtoms ( oil in coolant, bubbles, coolant in oil, rising oil level, no external leaks) I did a pressure test held pressure for about 1/2 hour or more til I released it although it did start to drop after 15 min.
Tonite I tried to remove the thermostat. Both bolts were frozen, got front one out eventually, rear no luck , about 3/4 turn and stopped. I hit it with heat, rocked it, tried 3/8 impact wrench at low setting ( old exhaust manifold bolt trick) no luck. I left it soaking I'll try again in a day or two.
Anybody have experience with this?
