I see alot of people use these. How much of a performance/fuel economy gain is there, considering their usually steep price? Are they worth buying and is there anywhere that offers a discount on them?
Definitely worth it. You can hear the difference in the amount of air that it flows. They are about $60 for our cars and last FOREVER .... (ok, so 1 million miles according to K&N, but that's forever on a car).
Get one!!! :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:
edit: yeah, you can't feel a difference, but ya can hear it and you never have to replace it ever.
You can pull a filter for a cheap price, but the whole intake system is like 200. For me it wasn't worth the 200, so I cut open the air lid, and put in a K&N drop in filter. And yes it is nice to just be able to clean the filter and oil it up again.
It's only $120 from MAD, I just got mine from the Fed Ex guy today. I got it for the same reason that everyone is saying...you only have to buy the filter once!!! :yesnod:
When I was still in the states, I frequented the drag strip with my 97 Trans Am. One of the things I was into was seeing the differences, at the track, traditional performance tricks and items made. I brought a K&N drop in filter and the paper filter to the track and ran both, same day, same whether with the motor about the same temp. I ran consistantly 1 tenth quicker with the drop in K&N filter. Personally, I can't really feel a tenth of a second on the street, but some say they can. You probably won't feel the difference, but you can be fairly sure it's there.
Besides, a K&N is cleanable and reuseable, so it will pay for itself in about 2 years.

Try Summit Racing (www.summitracing.com) You will need the cleaner and oil in the spray can. The ability to clean and re-use the filter over and over is one of the big reasons for its value.
I have to agree with everyone...get the K&N. I've had a K&N on every car I've owned. Even a Dodge Neon! The fact that you can clean it, re-oil it and go is well worth the money. You'll even get some gains from it. :D
